DISNEY’S FAIRY TALE WEDDINGS
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, SHOWRUNNER & DIRECTOR
As Executive Producer, Showrunner, and Director, Simon Lythgoe created and led Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, developing the original format for Freeform and later reimagining the series for the launch of Disney+. Across three specials and two series, he shaped the creative vision, production strategy, and execution of a premium franchise built to scale across platforms.
Lythgoe oversaw all creative and operational leadership throughout production, including casting, storytelling, talent, legal, budgeting, post-production, and final network delivery. The series was produced in collaboration with twelve internal Disney divisions and filmed across multiple Disney parks, cruise ships, and resorts, as well as international destinations including London, Paris, Athens, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.
In addition to overall showrunning duties, he directed and staged large-scale multi-camera musical performances, oversaw the series’ signature storytelling elements, developed hidden-camera proposals, wrote scripts, and trained and produced on-camera hosts. Featured talent included Grammy Award–winning Pentatonix, Jason Derulo, Brandi Carlile, Martina McBride, Pedro Capó, The Three Tenors, and Olivia Newton-John.
Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings delivered Freeform’s highest-rated premiere in more than six years and generated over two million streaming views on the day of release. Its success on cable directly contributed to Disney+ commissioning the series as one of the platform’s premiere titles at launch in 2019.
