CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

UK & AUSTRALIA

Lythgoe began his career in theatre before transitioning into television in the U.K., working on landmark programs including The Royal Variety Show, Blind Date, and Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush. His success with Gladiators led him to Australia, where he worked across major live sporting events, news, clip shows, game shows, and scripted drama series, including Home & Away, Wheel of Fortune, the Australian Film Awards, World’s Funniest, Million Dollar Chance of a Lifetime, the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and the development and production of one of the world’s most successful television formats, Popstars.

UNITED STATES

In 2002, he relocated to the United States to produce American Idol, helping launch the careers of global music icons including Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. During his six seasons on the series, he collaborated with legendary artists such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, The Bee Gees, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj, and Lionel Richie.

During this period, he also produced the first three seasons of So You Think You Can Dance and consulted on America’s Got Talent, further establishing his reputation as a leader in large-scale entertainment formats.

Following his tenure at Mark Burnett Productions and an exclusive overall deal with FremantleMedia, Lythgoe developed and produced numerous pilots, game shows, and reality competitions, including Let’s Make a Deal, Celebrity Family Feud, and Can You Duet.

LEGACY PRODUCTIONS & EXPANSION

In 2010, Lythgoe founded Legacy Productions, a company dedicated to developing and producing premium unscripted and scripted content. As President, he has overseen hit series such as CMT’s Next Superstar, A Chance to Dance, and Opening Act, and developed Love at First Song in partnership with CJ ENM and John Legend.

For Disney+, he served as Showrunner and Director on Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, featuring artists including Jason Derulo, Olivia Newton-John, Hunter Hayes, Colbie Caillat, and Pentatonix. He also produced and directed multiple Decorating Disney specials with Whoopi Goldberg, Sofia Carson, Jordan Fisher, and Cierra Ramirez.

Legacy Productions is currently expanding into feature films, faith-based storytelling, music, live events, and social-first content — creating new opportunities for artist development, branded entertainment, and innovative audience engagement.

FEATURE FILM SUCCESS

Most recently, Lythgoe served as Executive Producer on Netflix’s holiday feature film Meet Me Next Christmas, starring Christina Milian and Pentatonix. The film debuted as the No. 1 streaming feature worldwide, reinforcing his ability to deliver global hits across platforms.

Beyond production, Lythgoe is a sought-after keynote speaker at universities and industry events, sharing insights on entertainment, production leadership, and media innovation.
